Judging by the flood of notices I get on an everyday basis from Google Maps, it really likes me– possibly a little excessive. If you use Google Maps on Android, you might be in the very same boat.

Google Maps has a lot of notice alternatives (between 40 and 54 nestled into 10 classifications in the 3 phones that we tried), and they’re all switched on by default. When I look down the list, I find a few important notifications in the mix, like the one that lets me know my train schedule before I leave for work. However I find many of the others to be insignificant and annoying to deal with, continuously accumulating in my notification tray and distracting me from other important notifications.

( Note: This isn’t a concern for individuals who use iPhones. It’s just a little treat from Google to those who utilize the navigation app on the company’s own OS.)

No matter which Android phone you use, the Maps app lets you turn notices off one by one. But there’s a faster, simpler way to filter all of those alerts if you utilize a phone that runs on Android 9 Pie software application. You’ll find all of the actions listed below.

Before you get going, note that the place of some menu products might vary a little depending upon the brand of phone you utilize.

On any Android phone with Google Maps set up

  • Open Google Maps, then tap the menu button in the top left corner of your screen
  • Scroll down, then select “Settings”
  • Once you’re here, find and tap on “Alerts”
  • Here, you’ll see each of the notifications classifications. You can open every one to deactivate any notification that does not seem beneficial.

On phones running Android 9 Pie software

  • Long-press on the Google Maps app icon, then tap the “i” (info) button. This will take you straight to the “App information” page.
  • Tap “Notifications”
  • Here, all of those notices are divided into different classifications, so you can scroll through the classifications and shut down entire sections of unessential notices. You can also shut off individual alerts within each classification.
